The Shaman and the Shadow-The Druid and the Darkness.
Talk by Thomas Sheridan at 2013 Waveform Festival
“As Carl Jung said: “There is no coming to consciousness without pain.” We live in an age where development of human consciousness is hardly ever accepted as being a painful process. Imagining only the beings of light alone will never elevate the psyche to greater understanding. As all the great artists from William Blake to James Joyce have known that the 'monomyth' - one’s personal slaying of the monster hidden in the shadows - is a necessary part of our personal and social development. We are all a living monomyth. We are our own heroes and heroines.”
Internationally renowned artist, author, satirist, musician, public speaker and independent researcher Thomas Sheridan is best known for being the author of the book Puzzling People: the Labyrinth of the Psychopath. The book was well received, becoming a cult classic and has made Thomas' entire body of work reach a much larger audience. He is also the author of Defeated Demons, and his current book The Anvil of the Psyche which looks at social manipulation through popular culture and marketing. Thomas has also been featured in several films and documentaries including the highly acclaimed The End of an Éire and Unveiled and Lifted.
Thomas brings his unique and open style of speaking to the 2013 Waveform Festival to help us realise that the Shadow - understood through art, archetypes, symbols and behaviour - is not something to be feared, nor denied. The Shadow is potentially a great source of learning on the path to personal liberation and towards a more fulfilling relationship with both ourselves and the world around us. The Shamans understood the Shadow and how to work with it. We lost our Shamans, but we still have our Shadow. Now it is time bridge that divide.
